Bukotermal Ltd.
The company Bukotermal Ltd. was established with the aim of exploration and exploiting geothermal water for the production of electrical and thermal energy (heating greenhouses for cultivation of flowers, fruits, vegetables, etc.) in the area of Varaždin County and the northern part of continental Croatia. After completing the exploration phase in October of the previous year, the exploitation phase began, with the estimated cost of constructing a 16 MW geothermal power plant being €60-70 million.
In the coming months, the company plans to carry out construction and petroleum works and services to build a lagoon and test the Kutnjak-1 well, including the new geothermal wellhead installed during the workover of the well last year. Furthermore, the company plans to sign a Contract with the Ministry of Economy on the use of geothermal waters in the exploitation field “Lunjkovec-Kutnjak.” The following year, Bukotermal Ltd. plans to design and obtain all relevant permits and decisions from competent ministries for the construction and drilling of a new production well, as well as to design and obtain all permits and decisions for the construction of the geothermal power plant and accompanying facilities.
Upon completion of the planned activities, the County is expected to generate annual revenue from a portion of the concession fee for the exploitation of mineral resources. In the commercial phase, the construction of the geothermal power plant will provide the County with additional income from energy sales, all of which will contribute to the County's energy self-sufficiency and the reduction of CO2 emissions in energy production.
